O'Driscoll wants Payne deal

Midfielder wanted on short-term contract

Payne: Rovers trialist

Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to sign trialist Josh Payne on a short-term deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent having been released by West Ham at the end of last season, and has been training with the Championship club.

Payne has played in pre-season games against Askern Villa, Quorn, Barnstaple Town and Havant & Waterlooville, and has impressed so far.

O'Driscoll has revealed he hopes to tie the youngster down on a short-term deal, following an injury to fellow midfielder John Oster.

"If we could do something short-term with Josh, then I think that we would," he told the club's official website.

"He has got options elsewhere and at the moment we are just waiting to see if we can agree something.

"With Johnny Oster out, getting a midfielder in is something of a priority.

"It makes Josh's situation a little more clear-cut; he has the opportunity to come in and play, rather than just being a squad member. That's in progress at the moment."
