Sky Sports sources understand Wigan Athletic have shown an interest in signing FC Twente full-back Ronnie Stam.
The 26-year-old was linked with a transfer to the Premier League earlier in the year and could be offered a move before the window closes.
Stam joined Twente in 2008 from NAC Breda and impressed last season en route to the club becoming Dutch champions.
His performances have alerted Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, who is continuing to piece together his squad for the new season.
Martinez is short of options at right-back after Mario Melchiot's exit and Stam would help to provide increased competition.
He was recently linked with a move to Ajax as a potential replacement for Gregory van der Wiel, who was being chased by Bayern Munich.
