Louis Carey will retain the captain's armband for Bristol City's forthcoming Championship campaign.
New Robins boss Steve Coppell has confirmed he will retain faith in the central defender, who has missed pre-season preparations through injury.
Carey has been sidelined thanks to a heel injury sustained by carrying a barbeque but Coppell feels the 33-year-old remains a capable skipper.
Coppell said: "Louis Carey is captain of this club and I don't see any reason for that to change.
"The sad thing is I haven't been able to see him pull on a pair of boots yet because of the injury he suffered carrying a barbeque, but hopefully he's not too far away.
"He's not a table-thumper but he's a leader and has the respect of the players."
