Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark has decided against signing John Rooney following the striker's trial at the club.
Rooney, who has also been offered a new contract by Macclesfield Town, has been training with Huddersfield during pre-season, along with Australian midfielder Calum Hare.
However, Clark has confirmed he will not be offering the players contracts at the Galpharm Stadium and will now turn to other targets.
"We thank them both for their efforts, but they will not be staying with us," Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner.
"They have worked well with us, but the decision has been made to let them go, we wish them well and we move on."
Clark is also awaiting an injury update on Jordan Rhodes after the striker picked up a knock during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bury.
He added: "Jordan got a nasty whack on the outside of his left leg and we're just hoping it will settle down.
"It did ease a little before he left the ground and hopefully that will continue to be the case.
"We will have another look at him when we report back for training and, if it is still proving painful, then we will get him X-rayed."
