MK Dons have taken Kevin Long on trial with a view to a possible loan deal for the Burnley defender.
The 19-year-old joined the Clarets from Cork City in January on a three-and-a-half year deal, but has yet to break into the first team.
Carlisle have also expressed an interest in the central defender and Long could appear for the Cumbrians before opting for a loan move.
He is due to feature in the MK Dons' friendly against St Neots Town on Saturday and Burnley boss Brian Laws is happy to leave a decision in Long's hands.
Laws told his club's official website: "This is an ideal opportunity to get Kevin some first-team experience and MK Dons are going to have a good look at him.
"Carlisle will also be having a look and hopefully we can get Kevin sorted out with a loan deal that will benefit everyone."
