Defender Robert Kozluk says he turned down offers from other clubs in favour of a return to Sheffield United.
The 32-year-old, who spent eight years at Bramall Lane before departing for Barnsley in 2007, has penned a one-year deal with the Blades.
Kozluk, who was not offered a new deal at Oakwell when his contract expired at the end of last term, is thrilled to be back in red and white for the new season.
"When you leave somewhere you've been for a long time you don't always realise what you have left behind and put it behind you too easily," said Kozluk.
"I had some great times at Barnsley, but there is no doubt that this is a bigger club in terms of potential etc, and I'm surprised and delighted to be back.
"I had quite a few offers, but when I heard that United were interested they all had to take a back seat."
Kozluk insists his deal with the Blades was not a given, and that manager Kevin Blackwell made him work for his return.
He added: "From day one when I started training with United a couple of weeks ago, Kevin Blackwell made it abundantly clear that a contract would have to be earned and that there was no room for sentiment."
