Boro boss maintains pursuit of Hoops stopper

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan remains hopeful of bringing Stephen McManus back to the club. Celtic defender McManus, who joined Hoops in 2003, enjoyed a successful stint on loan at Boro during the second half of last season. And the Riverside club are now in advanced talks to secure the Scotland international's services on a permanent basis, with the stopper having been left behind as the Bhoys embarked on their tour of North America. "There's a good possibility of Stephen coming back, but like every deal, it has to be done properly," former Hoops boss Strachan told Boro's official website.

Add and add

"We are getting down the line there." The Boro squad has already been bolstered by the signings of striker Kris Boyd and midfielder Nicky Bailey, and Strachan is planning more new arrivals. "It's nowhere near finished yet, that's for sure. We will keep trying to add and add," he said. "I hope we can make a right few signings over the next few weeks of different types. Some will be transfers and some will be loans, I imagine."
