Notts County manager Craig Short has confirmed he has been holding talks over a deal for former Watford defender Jon Harley.
The full-back was released by the Hornets last month after two seasons at Vicarage Road, although he has been back training with the Championship club.
However, League One side County have declared their interest in Harley and Short is hoping to agree a deal for the 30-year-old.
Short told the Nottingham Evening Post: "I first spoke to Jon a few weeks ago and we're still in talks with him at the moment.
"We're hoping to get him and he would be another good signing for us because of his experience.
"He is a natural left-footer, capable of playing at full-back or on the left side of midfield.
"Watford want to keep him, but can't afford to, so he's looking for a new club. I can't believe he hasn't already got one."
