Gary Hooper will miss Scunthorpe United's opening pre-season friendly due to the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
The striker netted 20 goals for the Iron last season and has been linked with several of the club's Championship rivals.
Middlesbrough were understood to be favourites to sign the 22-year-old, while Derby County and Leeds United have also been linked with bids.
Hooper, who has 12 months remaining on his current contract, has previously stated he is trying his best to ignore the rumours concerning his situation.
However, interest in his signature appears to be gathering pace after Scunthorpe left the forward out of their squad for Saturday's game against Bottesford Town.
Iron boss Nigel Adkins says Hooper is fit for selection, but does not want to risk the player picking up an injury 'should anything materialise in the transfer market'.
