Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down fears over the fitness of striker Nicklas Bendtner.

The Denmark international, who was absent for a large part of last season due to injury, suffered with a groin problem throughout the World Cup this summer.

The 22-year-old also interrupted his holiday to be assessed by the Arsenal medical team, but Wenger insists the nature of the injury is not serious.

"We need to check it to see if we have to do something, but no, it is not a big problem," said Wenger.

The majority of the Arsenal squad have now returned to pre-season training ahead of next weekend's first friendly against Barnet.

Players who have been on World Cup duty, however, are not set to join the squad until the trip to Austria later this month, where the Gunners will take on Sturm Graz.
