Newcastle United have agreed an undisclosed fee with Nottingham Forest for versatile defender James Perch.
The 24-year-old, who can play in midfield as well as along the backline, is a target for the Magpies as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the Premier League season.
Newcastle were promoted to the top-flight last term following an excellent campaign in the Championship, bouncing back at the first time of asking.
Forest, meanwhile, face another term in the division after losing out to Blackpool in the play-off semi-finals.
Perch, who began his career at Forest, is highly rated and is the club's second longest-serving player behind Wes Morgan.
However, he only started 14 Championship games last season and Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has targeted him as a new acquisition.
Perch is set to complete his move to St James' Park subject to a medical.
