Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has confirmed his interest in Nicky Shorey.

Forest boss keen on Villa defender

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has confirmed his interest in Nicky Shorey, while dismissing any link with Mark Reynolds. Shorey, 29, impressed during his brief loan stint at the City Ground before ending last season on loan at Fulham from Aston Villa. His impact was such that Davies is keen to tie up a permanent deal as he bids to bolster his rearguard. That said, the Reds boss has moved to deny reports he may be lining up a move for Motherwell defender Mark Reynolds, despite their manager, Craig Brown, saying a switch would be beneficial.

An obvious choice

"It would be a no brainer for us to look at Nicky if he was available," Davies told the Nottingham Post. "If he is somebody we could possibly sign, then we have to look at it. "He is a player with obvious quality and there is no question he could do a job for us while he was here. He would be a good addition if it could be done." On Reynolds, he said: "I have spoken to Craig to clarify that he is not somebody we are interested in. "He may be a decent player, but he is not on our list of targets."
