Buckle hopeful on duo

Gulls boss optimistic on striker and defender

Buckle: Eyes pair

Torquay United manager Paul Buckle is hoping to sign Scott Rendell and Guy Branston before the start of the season.

Peterborough forward Rendell, 23, impressed during a loan spell at Plainmoor last season and has expressed a desire to return to the club.

Burton Albion defender Branston, 31, spent the second half of the last campaign on loan with the Gulls but has not yet agreed personal terms with the South Coast outfit.

Buckle told the club's official website: "Both Scott and Guy are desperate to play for Torquay United and I am keen that they are given that opportunity.

"We are in discussions with Peterborough and Burton but with club's pre-season preparations being so busy these things can take time.

"We have a good sized squad and with a couple more additions we will be ready."

Branston is expected to resume pre-season training with Burton this week, despite Buckle's confidence of getting a deal done.
