Former Villa full-back offered lifeline by Dutch giants

Former Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma has been offered a chance to prolong his career by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, following his release from Villa Park this summer. The full-back has been given a chance by his former club, whom he left for the Midlands giants back in 2005, and will train with PSV over the next few weeks with a view to a permanent move. The 32-year-old joined Villa from PSV back in 2005 but suffered an ankle dislocation in July 2008 which prevented the Holland international from making an appearance for Martin O'Neill's side ever since. The Villa boss decided against offering Bouma a new deal at the end of last season and now the free agent has been offered an opportunity by coach Fred Rutten to get his career back on track at the Philips Stadion. "Freddi hasn't played much in the past two years, so we'll have to wait and see what he's capable of," admitted Rutten. "However, we have the intention to offer him a contract if he turns out to be fully match fit."
