Notts County manager Craig Short has confirmed Nottingham Forest full-back Brendan Moloney has agreed to rejoin the club on loan.
Moloney spent the first half of last season on loan at Meadow Lane and made 19 appearances before being forced to return to Forest.
The right-back then linked up with Scunthorpe before a knee injury ended his season and he has now secured a move back to the Magpies.
Short told the Nottingham Evening Post: "He will give Thommo (John Thompson) competition for the right-back position.
"He did well here last season until Christmas and I've spoken to Billy (Davies) about him coming here for the season and he's fine with it."
The new Magpies boss also confirmed he is closing in on a strike partner for Lee Hughes and also wants to improve his defence and midfield.
"I'm looking at a target man to play with Lee," added Short.
"He's played at this level and higher and he's someone I've known for a long time. Hopefully, he will sign in the next few days. It will be a big one for us.
"I'm looking for a midfielder because we've only got Ricky (Ravenhill) and Bish (Neal Bishop).
"I also want to bring in another centre-half to bring a bit more competition for places in that position.
"We've got the lads we want and we're waiting for them to say yes or no."
