Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed he is 'amazed' that the club are going to release Joe Cole.
The Premier League champions have undergone a summer clearout and the likes of Cole, Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti have not been offered new terms at Stamford Bridge.
Cole, 28, endured a frustrating campaign with the Blues because of injury, but returned at the back end of the season to put in some good displays.
The midfielder's current deal will expire on 1st July, and there has been reported interest from North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as Manchester United.
Central defender Terry is surprised that Chelsea have not decided to renew Cole's contract, and admits he is disappointed that he is leaving.
"It still amazes me how the club have come to the conclusion of letting Joe go," he said. "We are disappointed with him going.
"He was a great boost for us, coming back from his injury, and it was the right time for Chelsea for him to come back into the side.
"He got a great goal away from home at Manchester United, which proved to be vital (in winning the title).
"Joe is one of the best players in our country. He has come back from an injury and showed great form for Chelsea."
