Raul Albiol has defended Spanish captain Iker Casillas, stating that he has not been distracted by his television presenter girlfriend's presence in South Africa.
Sara Carbonero, who is at the World Cup with a Spanish television station to report on events at the tournament, had been touted as a reason behind the goalkeeper, considered arguably the finest in the world, committing a rash challenge that resulted in Switzerland scoring the winning goal in their surprise 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Following the defeat to the Swiss, Casillas was immediately interviewed by Carbonero to reflect on the result, prompting speculation in the press that her presence had become a burden on the Real Madrid shot-stopper.
However, the 28-year-old's team-mate at the Bernabeu, Albiol, disagrees with the speculation, stating that Casillas was completely focused on getting Spain through Group H and living up to their billing as World Cup favourites.
"If Iker has anything, it's a lot of personality, experience and level-headedness," Albiol said.
"He knows what his job is and he is fully focused on winning the World Cup.
"He knows he's the captain, a key player, and everything else is nonsense. We'll give him all the support he needs."
