Defender looking forward to move to St Mary's

Southampton have completed the signing of left-back Ryan Dickson on a three-year contract from League One rivals Brentford. Skysports.com revealed last week that Saints were closing in on the capture of Dickson, who was out of contract at Griffin Park. A deal has now been finalised, although Brentford will be entitled to compensation for the 23-year-old and the fee is likely to be settled by a tribunal after Southampton's offer was rejected. Dickson, who started his career at Plymouth Argyle, is looking forward to playing for Saints and had little hesitation in accepting a move to St Mary's.

Potential

"Being from the south I know all about Southampton and know that it is a great club," the defender told the club's official website. "You can tell that it has been through its dark days and that things are really turning around now for the better. "The chairman and the manager didn't have to sell it to me too hard! There were Championship clubs interested in me, but I can see the potential here, even though we are a division below. "I want to play at the highest level and I know that this is the quickest way for me to be able to do that. "The chairman has impressed me with his aspirations for the club and the manager has told me a lot about the team, about the personnel who are already here. "Everything is being put in place here to take the club to the highest level so it wasn't a difficult decision to make."
