France captain Patrice Evra admitted he was proud of his side despite the lacklustre draw with 10-man Uruguay in their World Cup opener.
Les Bleus were forced to settle for a point after a game of few chances in Cape Town, with Nicolas Lodeiro being sent off for Uruguay 10 minutes from time.
France's preparations for the tournament have been undermined by rumours of unrest within the squad, but Evra is confident they can build on their draw with Uruguay.
"We really wanted the three points, but I am really proud of the team," he said.
"I think we did well. It's the first match. I'm confident for the games ahead. We really deserved to win.
"Apart from free-kicks, I couldn't see where Uruguay were going to be dangerous."
