Tim Cahill has confirmed he is fit and ready to lead Australia's attack in their group opener against Germany.

The Everton attacking midfielder has shrugged off a neck injury in time for the start of the tournament and his country's first fixture on 13th June in Durban.

He is back in training with the team having recovered quickly from the injury picked up against the United States in their final warm-up last week.

The news will come as a massive boost for Australia who will be hoping their star man can add to his 20 goals in 40 games to see them through a competitive group.

Cahill insists it never entered his mind that he might not play, saying: "I don't want to focus on injuries, and if the game was on tomorrow, I'd be there."

Meanwhile, Brett Emerton, who was doubtful for the opening game with a calf injury, has also declared himself fit to feature.

Australia had won two warm-up games before crashing to defeat against the United States last weekend.
