Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up out-of-contract Doncaster striker Paul Heffernan.

Heffernan has agreed a two-year deal with the Owls to become their third signing of the week after Chris Sedgwick and Jon Otsemobor.

He had attracted interest from a number of other clubs and Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is delighted to have won the chase for his signature.

"Paul's goalscoring record speaks for itself. Goalscorers tend to stay consistent and I am sure that Paul will score goals for Sheffield Wednesday," he said.

"I've done my homework on him as well and he certainly has the character to play for a club this size."

Heffernan, who has enjoyed loan spells at Oldham and Bristol Rovers, added: "I've been talking to a number of clubs but as soon as I found out about the interest from Sheffield Wednesday, my mind was made up.

"This is a massive football club and I can't wait to meet the rest of the lads and get started."
