Shaun Maloney has admitted it would be a major blow for Celtic to lose Aiden McGeady this summer.
Spartak Moscow have lodged a bid believed to be in the region of £8.3million for the Republic of Ireland international.
It is thought that Celtic knocked back the offer but that is unlikely to end interest in McGeady, who has also been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Maloney hopes the club will continue to stand firm and keep hold of such an important player.
He said: "Aiden would be a pretty massive loss.
"Last year, in a difficult year, he was our best player so if he was to go it would be a major loss but fingers crossed that it won't happen."
