Skysports.com understands Joe Thompson has signed a new two-year contract with Rochdale.
The 21-year-old was among those identified by boss Keith Hill as deserving of new deals at the end of last season.
The midfielder was offered fresh terms once the 2009/10 campaign came to a close and has now put pen to paper.
He has been rewarded for a number of consistent displays throughout last season, with 27 appearances bringing six goals.
Thompson proved to be a key figure as Dale secured promotion out of League Two and he will be given further opportunities to prove himself in the third tier.
The youngster is a product of the Spotland youth system and has spent his entire career to date with his hometown club.
