Mexico playmaker upset by brother's omission

Giovani dos Santos might not play for Mexico at the World Cup after his brother Jonathan was left out of the final squad, according to the players' father. Jonathan was expected to be named in Javier Aguirre's 23-man party for the tournament in South Africa but it was announced on Monday that he had failed to make the cut. The selection of Tottenham playmaker Giovani, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, was not in any doubt as he is considered an integral member of the starting XI. However, Giovani is thought to be so upset following Jonathan's snub that he is considering his future. Giovani's father Zizinho, himself a former professional player in South America, is concerned about his son's state of mind. "Gio is very hurt and he wants to be at home with us," said Zizinho. "He is there now and he's not well. We don't know if he will play (at the World Cup) or not. We still don't know anything." Zizinho also revealed that Barcelona's Jonathan, a more defensive midfielder, will no longer make himself available for international selection. "Jonathan told me that he is going to quit the Mexican team and I don't want him playing for them anymore anyway," he said.
