Richard Dunne believes Stephen Ireland would be a 'great addition' to any Premier League side and would happily welcome his former team-mate to Aston Villa.
Dunne left Manchester City for Villa Park last summer and proved a huge success in his debut campaign with Martin O'Neill's side.
It has been speculated that Ireland could now make the move to Villa as a makeweight for James Milner following the former's disappointing season of limited opportunities at City.
Dunne would be delighted if Ireland, City's Player of the Year in 2008/09, joined him at Villa and believes that a fresh start could reinvigorate his career.
"He had a bit of a stop-and-start season last year after the previous season, when he was unbelievable," said Dunne.
"I think Stephen would say himself that he wants to get more games and play more regularly, and if that's not at Manchester City, he would be more than welcome at Villa.
"Everyone in the Premier League knows on his day how good he can be, and he would be a great addition to any side."
