Fabio Cannavaro has confirmed that the option Juventus had to extend his contract has expired.
The defender's future has been the subject of speculation for some time and reports have suggested that he could leave Juve at the end of his deal this summer.
The Old Lady have not yet offered the Italy international fresh terms and he admits it is a strange situation.
"I'm a captain without a contract," Cannavaro, who has been linked with a move to hometown club Napoli, told reporters.
"The option for the renewal with Juventus is expired."
Luigi Del Neri has only just taken charge of Juventus and Cannavaro has yet to be told whether he figures in the new manager's plans.
"Indications? No, because at this moment the club is changing," he explained.
"Talking about the contract would not be intelligent."
Cannavaro does not believe the uncertainty over his club future will affect his performances at the World Cup with Italy.
"Going to the World Cup without a contract won't be a problem," he said. "At my age I'm able to manage these things."
