Woes mount for Wales

Crofts the latest to drop out

Toshack: Down to the bare bones

Wales are set to be down to the bare bones in their meeting with Croatia, with eight players missing.

John Toshack's plans for Sunday's friendly encounter have been severely hampered by a spate of withdrawals.

The national coach will have no less than 15 players unavailable to him this week and will travel to Croatia on Friday with a squad of just 17.

James Collins, Danny Gabbidon, Simon Davies, Andy King, David Cotterill, Ched Evans and Craig Bellamy have all withdrawn, leaving Wales short on experience.

Aaron Ramsey, Jack Collison, Joe Allen and Gareth Bale are out injured while Joe Ledley, David Vaughan and Neil Eardley are involved in Saturday's Championship play-off final.

Andrew Crofts is the latest to drop out, with the Brighton midfielder keen to focus on resolving matters regarding his future.

Reports suggest he is on the verge of securing a move to League One champions Norwich City.

Mark Bradley, Neil Taylor, Christian Ribeiro and Hal Robson-Kanu have been promoted from the Under 21 ranks to help bolster the numbers, but Toshack will still be forced to name a makeshift side.

Swansea's Ashley Williams is expected to take over as captain while St Mirren's Andy Dorman is in line to make his debut.
