Shrewsbury vice-chairman Keith Sayfritz says the club have been inundated with CVs for their vacant manager's job.
Shrews in no-rush to find Simpson's successor
Shrewsbury have been inundated with applications for their vacant managerial post, according to vice-chairman Keith Sayfritz.
Sayfritz revealed the Shrews have received more than 40 CVs for the position, which was left unfilled after the sacking of Paul Simpson.
The Shropshire club parted company with their former manager after they failed to make a League Two play-off place.
But Sayfritz says he is delighted with the calibre of the candidates, and he will soon set about creating a shortlist to decide who will be in the running to take the job.
He told the club's
official website: "We've had over 40 applications and it is a very high calibre of potential candidates, some are experienced and some are not so experienced.
"It is a different quality of applicant than when we last looked to appoint a manager (in 2008) and I think those people recognise the potential Shrewsbury Town Football Club has.
Right candidate
"We have had a chat about some of the applicants and shortly we will be drawing up a shortlist and will then begin the interviews.
"There is no real rush and it is far more important to us that we get the right candidate rather than making a quick appointment."
Meanwhile, the club have offered a contract to top scorer David Hibbert in an attempt to keep him at the Prostar Stadium.
Hibbert notched 14 times last season and has stated his desire to remain at the club, although captain Graham Coughlan has been released.
The decision ends the 35-year-olds two year stay at Town, and he will be joined by Paul Murray, Andreas Arestidou, Andre Grey and Jake Simpson - ex-boss Paul's son - in leaving the club.
But there is better news for Benjamin Van den Broek, Shane Candsell-Sherriff, Kevin McIntyre and Harry Hooman, who were all offered new deals.
