Alexander and Carlisle sign Clarets contracts

Burnley have been boosted by the news that player-coach Graham Alexander and Clarke Carlisle have both signed new two-year deals. The pair were key members of the Clarets' unsuccessful Premier League stay and have now committed themselves to Turf Moor. Laws is also hoping to keep another quartet of players after dishing out deals to Brian Jensen, Michael Duff, Robbie Blake and Steven Thompson. However, Laws has confirmed that Steven Caldwell, Stephen Jordan, Nicky Weaver and Adam Kay are leaving after not handing them fresh terms.

Tough choices

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss admits it was tough deciding who goes and who stays, and has thanked the players for their service to the club. "There have been some touch choices to make but I would like to place on record my thanks to the released players for their hard work and commitment to the club," he told the club's official website. "I am sure I speak on behalf of all the management, staff and supporters in wishing them every success in their careers elsewhere."
