Hertha Berlin defender Arne Friedrich is set to leave the club following their relegation from the Bundesliga.
They drop down from the German top-flight following the 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday and Friedrich's contract will not be extended.
The 30-year-old has been at Hertha since 2002 and his departure was not certain until he learned that the club were not going to make him an offer to stay.
"My agent has spoken with (Berlin's director of sport) Michael Preetz and it was not the case that Hertha would have even made me an offer," he told local television station RBB.
"Therefore, it looks like I will be leaving the club in one way or another."
Friedrich appeared disappointed that Hertha had not even tried to tempt him to stay and help them bounce back to the Bundesliga at the first attempt.
"I don't want to comment on that," he added. "I have been here for eight years and, for those eight years, I have always given my best."
