Striker backs former team-mate to deliver for England

Michael Owen believes defender Jamie Carragher can still cut it at international level after he was linked with a recall to the England squad. Three Lions boss Fabio Capello is rumoured to be considering calling the Liverpool defender out of the wilderness after he retired from England duty three years ago. The 32-year-old is thought to have had a change of heart and could be named in Capello's 30-man training squad on Tuesday, in preparation for this summer's World Cup. Owen, who played alongside Carragher for Liverpool and England, insists his former team-mate can still be relied upon to deliver the goods when it matters. "Jamie has been there and done it for club and country," he said. "Whether he goes or not, he would be one of the last people you would worry about depending on." Owen himself was hoping to mount a push to be recalled to the England squad but an injury in the Carling Cup final earlier in the season put all ambitions on the backburner.
