Scunthorpe are confident club captain Cliff Byrne will sign a new contract in the next week.
The 27-year-old will see his current deal at Glanford Park expire at the end of the season.
The experienced defender is, however, expected to pen fresh terms which will tie him to the club until 2012.
Byrne has been part of the Scunthorpe set-up on a permanent basis since 2003, having impressed the previous year while on loan from Sunderland.
In total the Irishman has made 293 appearances for the Iron and has scored seven goals.
He has helped the club to three promotions and has led them out at Wembley on two occasions, including in last season's League One play-off final.
