Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Taylor has not played for the newly-promoted side since the draw with West Brom in January because of a knee injury.

The central defender is pushing to be involved before the end of the season and Magpies boss Chris Hughton is delighted to see him back in contention.

"Steven was back in training and that was good to see," Hughton told the Evening Chronicle.

"It is about making sure he is right.

"I think it would have been frustrating for him watching the Plymouth game, but nobody here is under-estimating the big part he has played in what we have achieved this season.

"He's played a lot of games and he was in really good form.

"He's given us a lot this season."
