Defender worried about World Cup chances

Lars Jacobsen admits he is frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities at Blackburn. The Danish defender has slipped down the pecking order at Ewood Park with Michel Salgado and Pascal Chimbonda ahead of him in Sam Allardyce's plans. Jacobsen has not featured since January and he admits his situation is bleak as he wants to be playing more regularly. "I am fit so at this point it is good, but I think it is not too good playing in the reserves," Jacobsen told Onside.dk. "It seems bleak when you are not even on the bench. As long as he has me on the bench and there are two others in the queue in front of me it does not look particularly rosy."

World Cup chances

The 30-year-old admits he is worried about his World Cup place with Denmark if he is not playing on a consistent basis for Blackburn. "I would say that if I had played the entire spring for Blackburn I would probably be named in the [Denmark] squad," added Jacobsen. "But it's the coach who must make the choice and he is the best. "Of course I will be happy to be in the squad, but if there is somebody who is playing week after week and is better than me, he must of course take him [to the World Cup]." However, Jacobsen is hoping his long association with the national team will stand him in good stead when Morten Olsen names his squad for South Africa. "My advantage is that I have played many matches. The coaching team knows what I stand for and I know the players' style of play. "I have a routine and know what it is about."
