Sunderland captain Lorik Cana hopes team-mate Kenwyne Jones remains at the Stadium of Light next season.

Jones' future at Sunderland has been the subject of constant speculation with the striker strongly linked with a move to Liverpool during the January transfer window.

The former Southampton man is sure to find himself the subject of rumours this summer and although Cana wants him to stay on Wearside he would not blame him if he moved on to a bigger club.

"I want him to stay and play with us because he is a great player," Cana told Sky Sports News.

"So definitely he has got the confidence of everybody, his manager and his team-mates have great confidence in Kenwyne.

"He is a fantastic lad, a great guy, especially for myself as I have got a good relationship with him.

"I wish him the best for his career and his family, so if for him it is better to go and have a good opportunity in a bigger team why not?

"I wish him to be happy and successful."
