Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has ruled out another loan deal for striker Christian Benitez.

Blues boss dismisses talk of second temporary deal

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has ruled out another loan deal for striker Christian Benitez. The Blues boss would rather agree a permanent swoop for Benitez but admits it will depend on his asking price. Benitez has figured in almost every game this season but has only notched three goals in the process. He has, however, contributed elsewhere towards Birmingham's campaign and McLeish would be happy to sign him if the price were right.

Undecided

"There's no mileage in getting 'Chucho' (Benitez) on loan for another season," said McLeish. "The agreement was that we buy Benitez in May and that's the way it's written down and we'll make that decision as and when. "I did say a few weeks ago we'll try and keep him. But maybe it comes down to finance. It depends." Benitez recently lost his place in the starting Xl to James McFadden who was favoured in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last week. McLeish, though, insists the Santos Laguna loanee still has a big role to play. "Chucho has done well for us," he said. "Maybe his lack of goals return is what people are questioning about him but he has made a big impact."
