Racing Santander have been dealt a blow with the news that Pedro Munitis will not play again this season.
The club captain sustained knee ligament damage in Wednesday's crucial 3-1 victory over Espanyol.
The experienced frontman suffered the knock shortly after half-time, forcing him from the field.
Munitis underwent tests on his left knee on Thursday and the results have not been positive.
Initial estimations suggest he is likely to be sidelined for up to six weeks, bringing his 2009/10 campaign to a premature end.
He will now sit out the remainder of Racing's survival bid, with victory in midweek lifting the club six points clear of the drop zone with six games remaining.
