Chris Brunt is hoping on-loan Steven Reid will sign a permanent contract to stay with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

Reid has been deployed at right-back by the Baggies since moving to The Hawthorns in March from Blackburn Rovers and will finish the season with the Championship club.

He has made seven appearances for Roberto Di Matteo's side and has played his part in helping West Brom secure an immediate return to the top flight.

The Republic of Ireland international's Blackburn contract expires at the end of the season and he has previously hinted he would be keen to stay at West Brom.

Brunt has praised the 29-year-old's influence for the Baggies and is keen for Reid to lend his experience to the club's upcoming Premier League campaign.

Top man

"Reid can definitely help us in the Premier League - since he's been here he's been a top man," Brunt told the club's official website.

"He's a great lad as well and all the boys have taken to him.

"I know he's had bad injury problems over the last few seasons, but he has got Premier League experience and he has given us that calmness in situations when a younger player might have lost it.

"Players like that are definitely the sort we need in the Premier League."
