Hamburg striker Jose Paolo Guerrero has been banned for five games by the German football federation (DFB) after he threw a bottle in the face of a fan.
The incident occurred during last weekend's goalless draw with Hanover when the Peruvian took exception to a spectator's criticism when leaving the field at the end of the match.
Guerrero has already been fined by Hamburg and the DFB has now taken action by ordering a suspension and an additional €20,000 (£17,500) punishment.
A five-game ban means that the 26-year-old's season is over and he may not play for Hamburg again as his contract is due to expire in May.
Guerrero had only just returned from a long-term knee injury and his club are thought to be unwilling to offer a new deal.
