Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is hoping to sign Stephen McManus on a permanent deal from Celtic.
McManus is currently on loan at the Riverside until the end of the season after dropping out of favour under former Bhoys boss Tony Mowbray.
The Scotland international has impressed at Boro and Strachan is planning talks with Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell about striking a deal for McManus.
"The agreement is for Mick (McManus) to stay here until the summer but at the end of the season I'll have to sit down and talk with Peter," said Strachan.
"At least I know Peter will be at Celtic at the end of the season. I speak to him quite regularly so I'll do that personally.
"I spoke to Neil (Lennon) last Friday and it (McManus' return) wasn't discussed. I know Mick's feelings on it but it would be unfair to comment on that.
"Mick has been first class for me. Everyone knows what a big fan of his I am. People at this club like him, he likes being here, the coaching staff love him and the players love him."
