Jim Paterson's loan spell with Aberdeen may well be over after he suffered an Achilles injury, according to manager Mark McGhee.

The Dons boss has confirmed that the Plymouth defender is going back to Home Park in order to undergo treatment and he may not return to Scotland

Paterson limped out of the 2-2 draw with Dundee United with the problem, but it was initially hoped the damage would not be too serious.

McGhee told the Aberdeen Press and Journal: "Paterson is going back to Plymouth.

"It looks as though he could take several weeks to recover and I do not even know if he will be able to play for us again this season.

"He will go back there and they will be able to take care of him and, hopefully, get to the bottom of his injury."
