Middlesbrough have made a bid to sign Birmingham's Jay O'Shea.
The Irish winger joined the Blues last summer from Galway United, when they beat Boro to his signature.
But the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has managed just one game for the club and now Strachan is hoping to take him on loan to bolster his own depleted squad.
"We're going to try to get a young lad called Jay O'Shea in from Birmingham," said Strachan.
"Gordon McQueen knew of him before he went to Birmingham. He can play wide on either side of midfield and is more direct than what we've got here."
Joking about his current situation with injuries and illness, Strachan said: "Anybody who can breathe and has got a pulse we're quite happy with now!"
Strachan admits that things are improving, after a virus swept through the club and ruled out the likes of Gary O'Neil and Julio Arca in midweek
"We've not picked up anything else in the last 24 hours," said Strachan.
"We've kept Gary and Julio away, they're doing some cycling work on their own to keeping ticking over.
"None of the injured players will be back, but we're hoping Gary and Julio will be."
