Jim McNulty has joined Championship side Scunthorpe on a month-long loan deal from Brighton.

The 25-year-old full-back has found first-team opportunities at the Withdean Stadium limited this season.

His cause has not been helped by the fact that he had to have a kidney removed after suffering a horrific injury last term.

Being on the sidelines pushed him down the pecking order and he has been unable to clamber back through the ranks.

The form of Marcos Painter, who is on loan at the Seagulls from Swansea, has also hindered his progress.

Fitness

Brighton, therefore, feel that a spell spent away from the South Coast will benefit him more than being stuck in the reserves.

"He wants and needs to play games to improve his match fitness," said Seagulls boss Gus Poyet.

"This gives him the ideal opportunity to do that, but he will be back with us for pre-season training."

McNulty goes straight into Scunthorpe's squad for their meeting with Peterborough on Tuesday.
