Skysports.com understands Preston are lining up a loan move for Coventry defender Elliott Ward.
The experienced centre-half recently enjoyed a successful loan stint at Championship rivals Doncaster, but Sean O'Driscoll conceded Rovers were unable to keep him at the Keepmoat Stadium due to financial restraints.
Ward has been unable to force his way back into Chris Coleman's first XI at Coventry and is willing to venture out again in the pursuit of regular football.
Preston boss Darren Ferguson is set to free up a place in his squad by allowing Neill Collins to join Leeds United and has earmarked Ward as a possible replacement.
It is understood the two clubs are in talks, with a deal hoped to be pushed through before Thursday's transfer deadline.
