Brighton keeper Michel Kuipers will sit out the remainder of the season after breaking a finger.
The Seagulls' second-choice shot-stopper picked up the knock in training and will require surgery to help aid his recovery.
Initial reports suggest the Dutchman could be out of action for up to three months.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet may attempt to bring in cover before the loan window slams shut at the end of March as he is left with just youth team keeper Mitch Walker as back-up for Peter Brezovan.
"Unfortunately it's a two or three month injury, so the season is probably finished for Michel," Poyet told the club's official website.
"It was a normal action that you see in training four or five times every day. We still don't know how it really happened, because it was so simple."
Of Walker, Poyet added: "It was important to see Mitch the other night for the reserves, it will be good to see him in training again, and then we will make a decision."
