Everton ace Leighton Baines is determined to stake a claim to make England's World Cup squad.
The 25-year-old has been called up by Fabio Capello for this week's friendly with Egypt.
With first-choice Ashley Cole sidelined, and Wayne Bridge ruling himself out of contention, there is a vacancy at left-back.
Both Baines and Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock have been called up as Capello looks to assess his options.
And Baines hopes he can catch the eye of the Italian.
"I was delighted to get called up," Baines said.
"Obviously it's been on my mind for one reason or another and people have been talking about it so it was nice to get the call.
"I think every player in and around the squad will be thinking about the World Cup. It's a way off yet but it's only natural for it to be on your mind.
"The fact Everton have been playing so well has helped. We've done very well in the last couple of months and the good teams get noticed."
