Scott McDonald has consulted a specialist after continuing to battle with a hernia problem that has blighted his time at Middlesbrough.
McDonald signed from Celtic in the January transfer window, but has suffered with the injury since undergoing surgery last year.
Boro manager Gordon Strachan is worried about his striker's condition and has pledged not to force the Australia international back into action too soon.
Strachan said: "It is a concern.
"We need to see if he can continue playing or needs a rest, but he is in discomfort, that's for sure."
