Ian Murray has signed a two-year contract extension that keeps him with Hibernian until the summer of 2012.

The high-flying Leith club stayed third in the SPL table despite a 3-0 defeat to league leading Rangers on Sunday.

However, in the aftermath of the loss they have been boosted by the news that Murray is staying on at Easter Road.

The utility player has already added 72 appearances for Hibs since returning from Norwich City in January 2008 - taking his total appearances for the club to 238.

Meanwhile, manager John Hughes has confirmed that Kevin McBride will miss this week's SPL matches with St Johnstone and Motherwell after limping off against Gers.

"Kevin turned, slipped and seems to have opened up his groin," he told Edinburgh Evening News.

"He's usually a quick healer but I'd say he's definitely out of the next two matches."
