Fiorentina striker will not play against Bayern

Uefa have confirmed Adrian Mutu is ineligible for Fiorentina's Champions League match against Bayern Munich next week. The Romanian striker has been banned by Italian authorities for failing a doping test last month and European football's governing body have stopped the 31-year-old from featuring in La Viola's last 16 first-leg clash. . A Uefastatement read: "This follows the decision rendered by the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on February 3rd to extend the ban on the player to have a worldwide effect for the duration of the provisional suspension imposed by the association." The Italian Olympic Committee provisionally suspended Mutu last month after he tested positive for the appetite suppressant sibutramine following the Serie A match against Bari on 10th January. Mutu has endured a career filled with drugs misuse after being sacked by Chelsea in 2004 after using cocaine. Last year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected the forward's appeal against a ruling that he must pay the Premier League club over 17million euros in damages. Mutu appealed again to a Swiss federal court and the situation is now on hold but the former Juventus marksman will play no part in Fiorentina's visit to Germany on 17th February.
