On-loan defender Georg Niedermeier has reiterated his desire to stay at Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old is currently on an 18-month loan stay at the Mercedes Benz Arena from Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

The deal runs out at the end of this current campaign and it is reported that Bayern want a transfer fee of £3m for the player.

Niedermeier confirmed talks are ongoing about securing a permanent move and he hopes a deal can be thrashed out.

He told Stuttgarter Zeitung: "I have already pointed out once that VFB Stuttgart, as much as I, are very keen on going on working with each other also in the future.

"We are in talks that progress, but nothing is decided just yet."

Heldt hopeful

Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt is also hopeful a deal can be done.

He said: "We are in talks and are looking forward to making that transfer become a fact.

"But you are only able to confirm a deal if every paper is signed in the end."

Niedermeier, who is a former Germany youth international, is contracted to Bayern until June 2012.

He has so far made nine Bundesliga starts for Stuttgart this term, scoring once.
